Policeman Troubles

Good morning all!
So it’s almost two weeks until our EP launch weekend. We’re playing Sydney on the Thursday, Wyong on the Friday, and The EP launch is on the Saturday in Newcastle’s very own Cambridge Hotel. We’ve got all the posters and artwork completed for our entire Battles Begun tour, so you’ll no doubt be seeing poster’s around Newcastle in the coming days or if your lucky enough our street team might be doing letter box drops in your vicinity! If you just can’t wait for us to come to you, then rock on over to our Myspace page and you can see our gig dates and artwork for yourself.

To fill you in on what’s been happening with each of us. Luke’s crashed his car another 2 times in the last month, one of which was on the way to a show (66% of all his crashes are on the way to gigs, sorry luke!). Unfortunately, his car’s effectively written off (R.I.P VL) and we’ll all probably see him cruising in a much tidier vehicle quite soon. Hopefully this one has a little more luck. (to Luke’s credit the first crash was in Sydney and he’s a country feller, the second was another car running into him, and the most recent was in the rain. So he’s just been an unfortunate young man!)

Tom and Sam have been doing there thing getting this tour organised. The artwork and merchandise is looking great if you haven’t seen it yet. We caught up the other day after work to go to touch football in Dungog. Sam and our friend Daniel had been drinking Extra Dry platinum’s (for those who don’t know, they’re two standard drink beers) all afternoon and were easily smashed. Tom drove us to the game (and I caught up on some of the funniest beer you’ll drink, Tasman Bitter) and on the way we bought some adulterated magazines, affectionately known by us as ‘Car Porn’. At an intersection we thought it would be the best if we put it up to a window to show another car. As Sam held the magazine in question, I rolled his window down. Unfortunately for us it turned out to be a policeman in the other car, fortunately for us he was on his way to work and not actually on duty…

“You trying to be smart mate?” the policeman said.
“No, sir.” Said Sam as he looked at the ground and the car grew considerably quieter.

When the lights went green we were off like a raw prawn in the sun.

I’ve been working heaps, and in my spare time I’ve managed to watch some beast movies. Definitely go see ‘the labyrynth’ it’s a movie from the 80’s with David Bowie in it. It’s heaps similar to the whole ‘Never Ending Story’ style of movie. Also, I went to Sydney the other day to see my dad’s band ‘Samurai Trash’ – they’re from the 80’s also! Check out their myspace, they’ve got some awesome old school music.

We’ve been writing a quite a bit more music along the lines of Battles Begun and 6/4 (for those who’ve been to live show’s recently) but we’ve been playing with timing, accents and chord changes to keep song interesting and challenging while keeping them easy (and satisfying) to listen to. Keeping to our signature heavy rock style is no challenge when you look at the riffs and rhythm’s we’ve been writing, but it’s trying to make it catchy that’s definitely been fun.

Hopefully we can see you guys at a show soon, the EP launch weekend is going to be huge. If you’re in Sydney, Wyong or Newcastle we’d love it if you could come along! See you soon.

Merchandise & The Loft

Hey! Wow, last night at the loft was amazing! It’s good to see people coming to shows in Newcastle again. The gig was good fun, our brother band ‘The Shivering Indies’ opened up the night was a deliciously hook-filled, dancy set that got everyone pumped up and bouncing.

It was a big day for us yesterday because we finally got all our merchandise in! It’s been a long time coming but we’re all really happy with how the CD’s and Shirts have come out – they look real slick. We definitely had a great reception at the show, thanks to all you beast’s who rocked (or rolled) over and checked out our set, and an extra special thanks to everyone who bought our very first merch!

Merch will be for sale at any of our shows, and on the myspace:
CD’s are $10
Shirts are $20

and we found a whole bunch of our old stickers - which are free with any purchase!

We’ll be getting some glamour shots of our merch so you can check it out for yourself before buying it. And remember that every time you come to a local show, or buy a local bands merch your helping the Newcastle underground music scene grow back into it’s former glory.Big shout out to The Vaine, The Shivering Indies, Cannons Mouth, A Held Truth, The Loft and everyone who came for rocking out a big show. Hopefully everyone else enjoyed it as much as we did. Oi, and did anyone notice I played the whole set without my top E string on the guitar? Mega stressful stuff right there.

On another note, we’re in the process of starting up a [CSC] Newcastle street team. The team will be helping us out with promotion and drumming up local support. If your interested head over to www.myspace.com/caleb_street_nc and they’ll fill you in on what’s coming up / happening that you can take part in. They’ll be handing out handbill’s for the tour, putting up posters in shop windows, bulletining online and helping spread word of mouth – it should be way fun!

Cheers, and thanks for dropping by again.
Talk soon.

Wickham Pub

I woke up with the sorest mouth this morning.See, now that I have braces, whenever I drink I forget to be gentle – and end up ripping my gums up. Nice – so last night at the wickham park hotel we rocked out with The Zillers. It was a mad time, had a few drinks and my mouth was numb enough to make this morning excruciating. Thanks to everyone who read our article in ‘the post’ and came along.

The wicko is a rad little pub – because it only needs a vocal PA and our amps filled the room, we managed to get a pumping vibe. Yes, my 15w orange owned the room where it usually needs to be miked up - very cool. As usual Tom’s kick drum kept sliding out of place because he hits it so damn hard, the stage was a fun size so we were able to move ours amps in front of it to hold it in position – innovation! I’d like top give a big shout out to The zillers, pixie music and big apache for helping get the gig together. What did make this morning better though is that I get my licence back today. So I’ll be driving down to our gig with North of the Border at the chilli lounge in Wyong tonight. That’ll be a good show – we’ve got some cool new props we’re going to try out, and I'm not backing up another nights drinking so we’ll probably play a lot tighter!

Nothing more to report other than the usual - new photo’s, free download’s and merch out next week. Check our myspace for more shows, we’ve got plenty coming up – you’ll be seeing our Battles Begun tour posters around Newcastle and everywhere we’re playing in coming weeks.

JR out.
