Sup?
So we didn’t win the State Finals at Sydney last Thursday. Sorta disappointing – but we’ve learnt a lot, got some pretty cool photo’s, videos and stories along the way. Not to mention meeting some pretty funny cats. The finals were held at the roundhouse in Sydney, we got to meet Sam Simmons who was the MC for the night. He’s a pretty crazy guy. The bands were all pretty good, the guys that won, “the My Ty’s” were a typical ska band sound – congrats to them for the win though. They’ll be playing up on the Gold Coast in a few days. Nice.

So we’ve got the video interview from the Bar on the Hill show, I’ll be putting that up on the Youtube, Myspace and probably here real soon for anyone who’s interested. Cheers to the guys from Unseen TV for doing that, we’re really happy with the result.

After all the talk of T-shirts and merch, the designs have been finalised. We’ve placed the T-shirt order and they’ll be finished in a fortnight or so. So we’re still sorting out prices but they look like they’re going to be $20. Hit us up on the MS or at a gig for one! They’re repping the new trademark CSC ‘bird-man’ logo – so you’ll be the coolest cat in town.It looks like November is pretty much completely booked out for CSC’s Battles Begun tour; you’ll be seeing posters up in the near future. Excitement! If your keening to come to a show – the dates are all on our myspace now.

Until Next Week.JR out.

September: Band Comp

Ah G'day!

So today is another day of coming to work pretty rotten after a massive show. Ha! No sympathy though as "it's self inflicted". Which is fair enough. So last night was the next round in the Student/Uni/TAFE band comp. It was a pretty mad gig, there were heaps of good acts playing. The show was at the Bar on the Hill, thanks to everyone that rocked up.

Sammy, Tom and I were once again meeting Luke at the venue – we got there pretty early (at about 5:15) and started knocking back some beers and played a few rounds of pool. We got a free feed and I later found out (after spending my fair share behind the bar) that bands were supposed to get wristbands meaning we got all our drinks free! Rawt.
The night kicked off with Earle Funk and the Jam Fancies – a real cool jam band, with a full set of horns and a funky rhythm section. Awesome band to watch – I love a bit of funk. We ended up playing second so we got to dance for half their set, then had to go set up our gear.

When we played it was invigorating, it was the first time we’d played at that venue. The stage is massive, haha, well it’s a pretty big stage and the PA is huge. After knocking back a few it was pretty easy to get up there and just fuckin’ rock out. Daniel brought along his brand new smoke machine. That was the first time we’ve ever played with one of those bad girls and we got some pretty cool photos, they make us look like real rockers!

It was 20 minute sets only – so we tried to put in the heaviest hitting songs. We ended up rolling with:

1: Overload
2: Blunt Force Trauma
3: 6/4
4: Purge Me
5: Battles Begun

But, man time flies fast onstage! You jump up there, plug in your guitar – and then you get off and you’re a sweaty mess out the back!

The show was filmed for a website called ‘Unseen TV’ – so you’ll be able to check out a goofy interview and some live footage of the performance in a few weeks after they edit it all smick.

After we played – a guy called “Megatroid” got onstage and had a time. He had this strange sampled chilled out sound. But my favourite part was his Wii remote that he rigged up to actually change the sounds his machine was making, when you moved it up and down. Weird. Anyway, I ended up getting it and hopping onstage and ‘shaking’ the maracas. I’ll put a photo of that up soon enough.

The night was finished up with 2 girls called CUE, an alternative synth/electro sort of outfit – and then a ska group called the My Ty’s. The crowd was fairly messy by this stage (atleast I know I was) and everyone was dancing and havin’ a time.
And as the night came to a close – the competition came to the crunch. This is always the most awkward part of the night. I hate that a person’s show can be judged and compared to find the best performer. How can it ever be judged objectively? The top 2 bands go through to the state final (Sydney) – which then goes into nationals (held at the Uni Games @ the Gold Coast).

This is how it panned out:
5. Earl Funk and the Jam Fancies
4. Megatroid
3. Cue
2. Caleb Skips Chemistry
1. The My Ty’s

So we’re stoked! You can’t win them all, but at least we’re going for another shot into the state finals at Sydney! There is talk of organising a bus down there, so we might be able to get a few of you Newcastle friends and fans to tag along if you are keen. It’s 18+ as usual though. I’ll let you know about the details just send us a msg on the myspace if you’re keen.

Once again – thanks to everyone who came along and participated in having a mad time with us. It really was a fun night! And as always – new photo’s up real soon!

On a final note our next gigs other than the band comp are on October 1st at the Wickham pub and on the 2nd at the chilli lounge in Wyong. With our friend bands The Zillers and North of the Border respectively. The EP is nearing the printing stage – so get ready to get your copy at a show!

cheers ^_^
