CSC: No shortage of things to sing about..

JR-

Hey guys - so the new songs have been up for a few days and we've had really good feedback from everyone we've talked to! It's great to know our hard work is paying off and our music is being appreciated. If you havent already heard the new tracks - 'Overload','Purge Me' and 'Reminiscing' you can have a listen at: www.myspace.com/calebskipschemistry. Hope you like where we're taking our sound.
So we're off to play a show at Tuggerah on Saturday. It's an all ages show, so im pumped for whipping up a frenzy with the younger audience - AA's can be some of the best gigs.

We've had a heap of new upcoming gig dates uploaded onto the myspace - so the word is out, and we have to get people to these shows! There are still a whole bunch to come though, so we'll keep you on the knowledge-able side about those. The best part of the tour is that the actual 'EP LAUNCH' will be at the Cambridge Hotel Newcastle in November. It's towards the end of the tour because we thought it'd be a smashin' idea if we had it so everyone could sing along at it. Un-Conventional 'YES' but we'll see how it goes.

This weeks blog is a shorty - but that's because it's all about the music this week! You've gotta get your fine asses over the Myspace and have a listen. Next week i'll have a write-up of the weekends show - and by then i'll have the 'whats your favourite CSC song' poll up and running. That's where you have your say about where we should be taking our sound. We've always got new photo's coming in, so i've uploaded a LIVE SHOW GALLERY that displays straight onto our main page.

Ps. Keep your eyes and ears peeled because our favourite local bands - COTA and TSI (The Shivering Indies) are releasing their EP's soon too! Neither bands have their guns on safety - so you'll be more than stunned when you listen to their upcoming tracks.

Righto:
Talk soon biggy's.

Myspace: EP RELEASE

hey there.
johnny present.

excitement!
we've just completed the EP. All the tracks have been mixed & mastered - and now we're planning an internet/myspace release. the tracks are going onto the myspace on Monday.
this is very exciting, its the first time anyone outside the band has heard these tracks - other than live.

so tell everyone you know, or think would be interested!

The EP 'Battle Begun' is going to be up for sale in the near future, so don't worry - you can listen to the tracks on myspace until the official hard copy release. Dont forget that the title track 'Battles Begun' is still up for free download from the myspace - this version of the track is going to be limited edition soon because we have a heavier/remixed version on the EP. I'm going to put a poll on the myspace.. "whats you favourite CSC song". This way we'll know what to open our EP launch set with. ^_^

Thanks for your support guys!

Sydney: When in Rome...

Aloha!

What a weekend!

We've had this TAFE battle of the bands lined up for the last few weeks now, and I'm pretty sure it was the biggest Sunday we've ever had! After a strong night at the Dungog RSL i met Sam and Tom in town at 7:30am and we jumped in the Forrester with amp, guitar and cymbals. We'd been told there was a professional backline so we decided against bringing my speaker cab. We made it to the Collingwood hotel in Liverpool by 11:30, and started waiting for Luke.

We'd been warned of the hotel's strict dress code so we changed from our pyjamas into some real pants ( i had no belt, so i used like 10m of rope that Daniel kindly provided. check the photo's! ha). The hotel's fairly posh you see, as far as I'm concerned toilets that smell like a florist are a fairly good indicator.

After a midday schooner of the finest beer the tavern could offer and meeting up with our student association reps Daniel and Chris, we went to a little meeting with all the bands and the management for the day. We got the 3:00pm slot. With bands scheduled to start at 1pm it was a good time-slot. The other bands were mad, it was a great cross section of genres and the performances varied from band to band. My favourites were Modern Error, and Understated. Both bands had great vocal harmonies, and a solid rhythm section which is tre' sxc to listen to. Their frontmen were full of energy, a definate must see if you get the chance.

We were only at the venue for about an hour before we spoke to Luke, and he told us he had our mates Lachy and Shannon in the car.. and that they'd crashed 20minutes from the show. Luke's radiator was cracked! There's nothing more rock'n'roll than crashing on tour if you ask me. We managed to get them all to the pub, and Luke on the stage - but we now had 8 people to get home in 2 cars, and the Wagdaddy stuck in suburban Sydney. Not to mention that we realised we had to bring our own cabinets. Luckily Lukey did bring all his gear.

So i was short, 1 lead and a speaker box. But, the guys from Airmail happily saved us, and let us use their gear. Funnily enough he had exactly the same cabinet as i usually use, so their was no confusion with functionality. ( we put the FUN in FUNctionality ).

When we finally did play, we managed to forget all our troubles for a short 20 minutes. A long, long day for quite a short amount of stage-time. But playing a small set is hella fun, you get to play all of your best songs and ramp up the intensity. Our set list was:

1.
6/4.
2. Purge Me. (on upcoming EP)
3. Gay Bar. (Electric Six cover)
4. Blunt Force Trauma.
5. Overload. (on upcoming EP)
6. Battles Begun. (on upcoming EP, pre-release free download on our myspace)

We decided to change around the set from the usual one, just because it was a band comp and we wanted something fresh that opened up firing guns. 6/4 is a brand new song we've written about the tianamen square massacre and its one of our heaviest yet. Sunday was the first time we've played it live, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.. so its looking like a keeper. The usual songs that will appear on the EP were included, we're trying to get as much stage time with those tracks before the tour, so we can tighten all the screws.

Daniel took a whole bunch of photo's on his camera, its a beauty of camera, heaps of lenses ( i dont know a thing about camera's, but it looked like a proper piece of equipment ). I had a geeze at some of his snaps this morning, and they're going to be sick when they're all produced. I'll get those up soon. ( the photo's from the last CSC photo shoot we did are up on the myspace, ill include some at the end of the post. )

We spent the last few hours of the gig watching bands and playing with rope in the car park. The car/Sydney/stranded situation was pondered.. The winners were announced around 6:00pm.

A metal band called Necroverture came 3rd with some killer screaming and riffage. A heap of gain, scooped EQ's and a flurry of kick drum secured them with the $150 prize. They were quick to mention the beer for the night was paid for.

Modern Error came 2nd with an infectiously catchy rock sound. They obviously won it with their tightness, great vox harmonies and their frontman's onstage charisma. Their $250 prize is nothing to be scoffed at.

..and finally, after all the excitement of the day - Caleb Skips Chemistry took home first prize. Booyeah! It was great. We all wrestled on the D-floor before accepting our massive cheque for $600 - compliments of TAFE. Our acceptance speech included 2 words.. "hello.........thanks" =] it was grand!

We ended the night up at an F1 motel, eating pizza and staying up late watching Australian Idol and sensitized (R18+) porn that was broadcast on the in house tv's (it involved seeing no rude parts, and amazing storylines). The best way to finish the evening im pretty sure?!

I had to get up at 5:00am with Daniel and Chris to get to work. All the other boys stayed in Sydney to fix Lukes car, i guess it's lucky he's a mechanic. Hopefully now its a working day they can find a radiator!

Here's some of the
pics from the photo shoot from the other week. I'll upload some from the TAFE show when Dan's done with them.

You can see all of them and more

August: The Month Of Kings.

Hiee. Redneck here.
So the tracking is complete for the EP.
We've moved onto working on the final mixes, which is exciting. Sam's dropping round a copy to me today.
From what i heard last in the studio its sounding real heavy, we've got a few little surprises in there, some unexpected (piano?) instruments and some cool shit.
It's being released in September, along with a whole range of merch. Guys & Girls shirts, Pencils and Stubby Holders are all looking to be on our merch desk at shows in the near future. Expect to see some CSC eyeball-excitement around town. Only the coolest cats in town will be wearing them, so first in best dressed (literally).

UPCOMING SHOWS: well, it would appear on the myspace that we've been fairly inactive of late. but things are actually really bustling along.. we're giving our press kit to PIXE MUSIC who are organising our upcoming tour - which is going to be the biggest thing we've done yet. Touring our EP is going to be so much fun (im hoping to get my hands on a video camera and film some of our antics for you) i look forward to sharing it with you, hopefully you can make it along to some of our shows and 'party, party'. We're releasing all the tour dates at the same time, so keep posted for a full tourdate listing in the future.

On Sunday we're jumping into a big party car and heading down to Sydney to play a TAFE battle of the bands. We won the Newcastle heats by default because no one else tried out, which is sort of amusing/sexually-exciting. Accomodation on the night is provided, not sure what we're going to get upto after, if its not to late maybe their are exciting new sydney pubs to habituate. (gah, i've lost my ID.. so everyone will think im underage!?).

And.. we're also playing another band comp down in Sydney over the next coming month, the prize is a support slot on the HomeBake stage! So that's heaps important, hopefully we succeed and have funtimes, keke.

PHOTO: we recently grabbed a camera and took some glamour shots of the group. It was a fair amusing hour and a half, and i think of the 100+ photo's we took their might some killer shots of us pulling all our most attractive faces. At the moment they're still on Tommy C's computer, but ill try my hardest to post them up soon. You'll surely love them as much as we do! (Y).

Redneck Out!
