2010

wow, 2009 is over what a year.
i dont know how it was for you, but we definately learnt alot and had a pretty good time.
2009 was the year we first took the band seriously, we've release and EP and toured it.
met some champion people, made some fans, even sold a CD or two. (not to mention get beat up by bouncers.). I apologise for my lack of blogging over the last few months, but we've been busy and the times are a-changing. but once things are in full swing again (and we're out of holiday season) we should have a little more consistency.

the battles begun tour was fun, sure it wasn't a raging success but we learnt heaps, had some funny as hell times, and ended up with a pretty damn good EP under our belt. Not to mention the experience of being on the road, the next tour is going to be much more promising.

so whats next?

2010 brings us into a new year of times to be had, and we've got a good idea of we're (and how) we're going to be taking the band. We're aiming to release another EP by the end of the year, and tour it of course, but before then you'll be hearing more from the CSC boys. Before the end of February we're aiming at recording (and maybe releasing, if your nice..and if we do good) a brand new batch of demo's. We'll still be maintaining a steady flow of gigs throughout the year as per usual with the CSC team.

all we need is your help and support over the next 12 months. we've still got plenty of shirts and CDs that need distribution, we might even start cutting some deals to fans.

right-on people, we'll see you soon.

ETA - 1 Week.

As of yesterday, we’re one week out from the first 3 show stint of our Battles Begun tour. We’ve invited everyone we know to Newcastle show at the Cambridge on the Saturday – it’s going to be a huge show. We’ve had our last practice before we begin in Sydney on the Thursday, as Luke’s gone on holidays to Queensland until next Wednesday. We’re going to pack up all our gear into my dad’s station wagon (hopefully it all fits) and journey down to Sydney on Thursday after work. We’re playing at the Bull and Bush in Baulkam Hills – with the band ‘Marlow’. We’re going to take a camera for the whole weekend, so you’ll have some first hand footage of our travels.

Today our song ‘Battles Begun’ has been featured in the ‘Hit the Pavement’ Podcast. It’s a podcast that showcases Australian uncovered independent music. There are some other great bands on there, so if you’ve got a spare moment have a listen. You can find it at: http://hitthepavement.wordpress.com/ and don’t forget you can download our single ‘Battles Begun’ for free on our myspace.

And in recent news, the new changes to licensing laws for venues are very exciting. They’ve changed the laws so that pubs don’t have to be approved as a POPE (Place of Public Entertainment) to have live bands. This should prove very fruitful for any burgeoning music scene. It’ll open up heaps of opportunities for local Newcastle acts especially, and hopefully we can help restore the scene to its former glory. We’ve just got to convince some smaller pubs to open up performing areas – hopefully there isn’t a huge influx of cover bands… ew. You can check out the details at: http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/bb_music.asp

If you’ve seen the posters around Newcastle, then you’ll agree that our designer Luke Oliver has outdone himself. You can check out the artwork – and the gig list – on our myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/calebskipschemistry

Policeman Troubles

Good morning all!
So it’s almost two weeks until our EP launch weekend. We’re playing Sydney on the Thursday, Wyong on the Friday, and The EP launch is on the Saturday in Newcastle’s very own Cambridge Hotel. We’ve got all the posters and artwork completed for our entire Battles Begun tour, so you’ll no doubt be seeing poster’s around Newcastle in the coming days or if your lucky enough our street team might be doing letter box drops in your vicinity! If you just can’t wait for us to come to you, then rock on over to our Myspace page and you can see our gig dates and artwork for yourself.

To fill you in on what’s been happening with each of us. Luke’s crashed his car another 2 times in the last month, one of which was on the way to a show (66% of all his crashes are on the way to gigs, sorry luke!). Unfortunately, his car’s effectively written off (R.I.P VL) and we’ll all probably see him cruising in a much tidier vehicle quite soon. Hopefully this one has a little more luck. (to Luke’s credit the first crash was in Sydney and he’s a country feller, the second was another car running into him, and the most recent was in the rain. So he’s just been an unfortunate young man!)

Tom and Sam have been doing there thing getting this tour organised. The artwork and merchandise is looking great if you haven’t seen it yet. We caught up the other day after work to go to touch football in Dungog. Sam and our friend Daniel had been drinking Extra Dry platinum’s (for those who don’t know, they’re two standard drink beers) all afternoon and were easily smashed. Tom drove us to the game (and I caught up on some of the funniest beer you’ll drink, Tasman Bitter) and on the way we bought some adulterated magazines, affectionately known by us as ‘Car Porn’. At an intersection we thought it would be the best if we put it up to a window to show another car. As Sam held the magazine in question, I rolled his window down. Unfortunately for us it turned out to be a policeman in the other car, fortunately for us he was on his way to work and not actually on duty…

“You trying to be smart mate?” the policeman said.
“No, sir.” Said Sam as he looked at the ground and the car grew considerably quieter.

When the lights went green we were off like a raw prawn in the sun.

I’ve been working heaps, and in my spare time I’ve managed to watch some beast movies. Definitely go see ‘the labyrynth’ it’s a movie from the 80’s with David Bowie in it. It’s heaps similar to the whole ‘Never Ending Story’ style of movie. Also, I went to Sydney the other day to see my dad’s band ‘Samurai Trash’ – they’re from the 80’s also! Check out their myspace, they’ve got some awesome old school music.

We’ve been writing a quite a bit more music along the lines of Battles Begun and 6/4 (for those who’ve been to live show’s recently) but we’ve been playing with timing, accents and chord changes to keep song interesting and challenging while keeping them easy (and satisfying) to listen to. Keeping to our signature heavy rock style is no challenge when you look at the riffs and rhythm’s we’ve been writing, but it’s trying to make it catchy that’s definitely been fun.

Hopefully we can see you guys at a show soon, the EP launch weekend is going to be huge. If you’re in Sydney, Wyong or Newcastle we’d love it if you could come along! See you soon.
